My children are a mix of Haitian, Antillean, and Ghanaian. Being multi-ethnic, they have very curly, coily, spirally hair… and lots of it. Each one of them has a different curl pattern, different texture, and varying levels of volume. From detangling to deep conditioning, tackling all of those curls is no easy feat and wash day in my home is a full-blown production. All hands on deck!
I have tried SO many products over the years; I struggle to find ones that work well for all of them and leave their hair feeling clean, moisturized, and ultra-hydrated. But I found Johnson’s® Ultra Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner at Walmart (Shop NOW at Walmart!) and it has made a huge impact on their wash day journey.
I have been using Johnson’s® products on my babies for the last 6+ years, but this is the first product I have used that was designed specifically for the needs of toddlers and kids. Incorporating this into the wash day routine of my 2-year old and 6-year old has made a world of difference, because it is made especially for them!
Kid’s have unique hair needs that are different than those of babies and adults. My oldest two children have definitely grown out of baby shampoos, but they aren’t quite ready for adult shampoos that can be super harsh on their developing hair. On top of that, curly hair is notoriously hard to keep moisturized and can often become dry and brittle. To prevent that, I always want to make sure that I am using products on my kids’ hair that help their strands retain moisture and hydration.
Our Wash Day Routine consists of 5 Simple Steps:
Detangle
Shampoo + Condition***
Deep Condition or Hot Oil Treatment
Moisturize
Style
***This is where Johnson’s comes in to save the day!
Johnson’s® Ultra Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner is specifically recommended for dry, weak, and delicate hair because it hydrates & nourishes hair with proteins & pro vitamin B5. Their gentle No More Tears® formula makes wash day a breeze and, keeping my children’s sensitive skin in mind, I love that it is hypoallergenic and contains no parabens, phthalates, sulfates, or dyes. It is also Ophthalmologist & Pediatrician tested, so you can rest assured that it is safe and healthy for your favorite little humans.
To make wash day go as smoothly as possible, we do our best to make it fun! Bubbles, bath toys, and their favorite songs playing in the background make the process more enjoyable for all of us. It keeps them entertained and distracted while I get to work on those curls! Ensuring that it’s an experience they can look forward to makes all the difference in creating a quick, efficient, consistent wash day routine.
One of the biggest benefits for me as a busy, working mama of 3 is the simplicity and ease of purchasing their hair products. I don’t have to go out of my way or make a trip to a specialty store: you can find the Johnson’s® Kids’ Hair collection at Walmart in the Baby Needs section of Personal Care aisle. I love how effortless it is to make sure these items stay stocked in our home to keep their hair feeling hydrated and keep those curls poppin’! Johnson’s® Ultra Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner has very quickly become one of my favorite go-to products for my kids’ curly hair and I can’t wait to see what Johnson’s® comes up with next!
